24 (well 29 actually)

Beep beep beep beep beeeep (that's from 24 in case you don't get it)...

At the time of writing we have been on the train for approx 29 hours and counting.  It's actually rather pleasant, we simply stroll about the carriage chatting with our fellow inmates and observe the Russian countryside roll by. The train stops at some of the stations for about 30-40 mins so we also get the occasional opportunity to don the warmest coats that money can buy and amble about the platform (or in some cases, just a narrow strip of snow-covered earth between the tracks) photoing the surroundings and purchasing 'treats' - most of which we have no idea what they are - from the Babuskas' trolleys. One particular success from today's outing was a packet of crab crisps - NOT recommended.

The private room has been a treat but we're getting ready to be chucked out as we write this.  It's been unusually luxurious but we may have a more 'authentic' experience if we share a room with a couple of interesting Russians (as long as they're not vodka swilling psychos).

Dinner tonight was a pot mash (avec croutons) for Mel and a pot 'chicke'noooooooodoh' (chicken noodles) for Georges with a dessert of chocolate eggs and dried mango.  We're planning to complete the evening with a visit to the dining cart for a digestif and some sparkling conversation. We've been warned by a few of our travelling companions that the food in the dining cart isn't the finest of cuisine but if you make friends they can be very generous with the vodka. Let's see how that goes...
